1. ¿Cuándo comenzó vuestra carrera musical?
¡Hola retro amigos!
Agarraos bien porque llegan The Tootsie Rollers!
Tuvimos el placer de escarbar en la vida de estas divas... ¿y que no sabéis qué? Tienen la inocencia de un niño, y nos encantan ese tipo de divas. Tal y como describen en su web (www.thetootsierollers.com) "The Tootsie Rollers es un grupo retro formado por chicas que fusiona los clasicos con temas actuales, acopañadas por su increíble banda de músicos "The Dappers" ".
Aquí os dejamos una entrevista muy interesante que no os dejará indiferentes...
1. ¿Cuándo comenzó vuestra carrera musical?
Llevamos juntas casi siete años. ¡No podemos creer lo rápido que pasa el tiempo!
2. ¿Cómo lo vive vuestra familia?
Nuestras familias son un gran apoyo. Son las primeras personas que llamamos para dar una buena noticia, y siempre están en primera fila en nuestros conciertos. Les encanta seguir nuestro progreso y siempre están dispuestos a compartir las fotos y videos con sus amigos. Nos sentimos muy afortunados de tener su apoyo.
3. ¿Eres el primer cantante / músico en su familia?
Cinco de nosotras, sí, somos las primeras músicas en nuestras familias. La madre de Kate Ann fue cantante e incluso hizo giras por Europa con un coro cantando el tono mas agudo. Ella nos aconsejó desde el inicio de nuestro viaje Tootsie y creó nuestros trajes al principio. A menudo nos preguntaban dónde conseguíamos los trajes multicolores, la respuesta era “¡la mamá de Katy las hizo!”
4. ¿Qué os inspiro para ser “The Tootsie Rollers"?
Todas dimos clases en diferentes colegios de teatro musical y conocimos el programa Mack y Mabel en Londres. Compartíamos un vestidor y lo pasábamos muy bien, riendo y compartiendo nuestras esperanzas, aspiraciones y el amor por las películas del viejo Hollywood.
La hermana de Ana, una abogada, estaba buscando actores para participar en un cabaret nocturno por la caridad que haría para su firma, así que decidimos combinar dos números para el evento. Nos fue muy bien acudió muchísima gente esa noche decidimos que teníamos que probar ¡y hacerlo de nuevo! necesitabamos un nombre y parecía natural usar el apodo con el que nos dirigíamos entre nosotras “Toots” y extenderlo a The Tootsie Rollers”.
Inspirándonos en los grandes de Hollywood, a los que admiramos mucho y en Kick-ass, el poder femenino -iconos contemporáneos que seguimos hoy- decidimos fusionarlos; lo mejor de lo viejo, con lo mejor de lo nuevo. Nuestro objetivo es difundir este mensaje a través de nuestra música, estilo y actitud, y estamos encantadas con la respuesta positiva que hemos recibido.
5. ¿Tuvieron que renunciar a sus aficiones o a pasar tiempo con sus seres queridos para lograr una mejor posición en la industria de la música?
Ser trabajador independiente, puede ser un desafío y ¡haces malabares con todo! Somos muy ambiciosas y siempre estamos trabajando duro para impulsar e ir consiguiendo nuevos logros. Lo mejor de gestionar una empresa con tus mejores amigas es darse cuenta de que todo se puede adaptar a las necesidades del grupo. Tenemos la regla de que las cosas personales son prioritarias, ya que todos reconocemos la importancia que tiene en nuestras vidas. Si alguien necesita un día libre, tiempo para estar con sus seres queridos, para centrarse en una pasión, se apunta el día en el calendario y el resto del grupo trabaja sobre ello.
6. Han tenido varias colaboraciones con otros músicos. Si pudieras elegir cualquier artista vivo para compartir un escenario ¿quién sería? ¿Y dónde?
¡Tendría que ser la legendaria Bette Midler! Ella es una GRAN inspiración Tootsie y mantendremos los dedos cruzados para compartir escenario con ella algún día (con una gran banda y vestidos con lentejuelas de pies a cabeza). El lugar ideal tendría que ser épico como ¡Wembley o el Hollywood Bowl!
7. En su página web hay una pequeña introducción sobre cada miembro de la banda y su icono retro. ¿Cómo os representan?
Inspirado por las Spice Girls, todos tenemos personalidades o apodos en el grupo - The Diva, The Bombshell, The Peach, The Poppet, The Siren and The Sweetheart, Representan nuestras diferencias de personalidad y nos dan ese álter ego para jugar en nuestros shows. ¡Es muy divertido! Todas somos grandes fans de los iconos vintage de Hollywood, decidimos elegir nuestro favorito y utilizarlo como fuente de inspiración para nuestro aspecto y actuación.
8. ¿Quién es el que más te inspira fuera del escenario?
Sin duda la gente que hemos conocido a lo largo del camino es la que mas nos ha inspirado. Hay un increíble sentido de comunidad en el mundo vintage y no habríamos alcanzado ni la mitad sin la pasión y el apoyo mostrado por la maravillosa gente con la que hemos trabajado.

Hold onto your seats because The Tootsie Rollers are here!
We had the pleasure to dig into these divas life career... and guess what? They own the kindness of a child, and we love that type of divas.
As described on their website (www.thetootsierollers.com) "The Tootsie Rollers are a retro girl band who fuse old-school classics with contemporary hits - accompanied by their dashing band 'The Dappers’."
Here's a very interesting interview that won't leave you indifferent...
1. When did you start your music career?
We have been together nearly seven years now. We can’t believe how the time has flown!
2. How did your family feel about it?
Our families are all incredibly supportive of what we do. They’re the first people we call when we have exciting news, and can always be seen on the front row at our gigs. They love to follow our progress and are always keen to show their friends our pictures and videos. We feel very lucky to have their support.
3. Are you the first singer/musician in your family?
For five of us, yes, we are the first musicians in our family. Katy’s Mother Ann is a keen singer and tours around Europe singing with her choir. She has given us advice from the start of our Tootsie journey and created our costumes in the early days. We often get asked where we got our multicoloured playsuits from and the answer is ‘Katy’s Mum made them!’.
4. What did inspire you to become "The Tootsie Rollers”?
We all trained at different Musical Theatre colleges and met performing on the show ‘Mack and Mabel’ in London. We shared a dressing room and had the best time laughing and sharing our hopes, aspirations and love for vintage Hollywood films.
Anna’s sister, a lawyer, was looking for acts to perform at her firm’s charity cabaret night so we decided to put two numbers together for the event. It went really well and we got such a buzz from the night we decided we had to try and do it again! A name was needed and it seemed natural to take our nickname for each other ‘Toots’ and extend it to ‘Tootsie Rollers’.
Taking inspiration from the Hollywood greats we admire so much and the kick-ass, girl power, contemporary icons we follow today, we decided to fuse the two together; the best of the old, with the best of the new. We aim to spread this message through our music, style and attitude, and have been thrilled by the positive response we've received.
5. Did you have to give up your hobbies or spending time with your loved ones in order to achieve a better position in the music industry?
Being self employed, it can be a challenge to juggle everything! We are incredibly ambitious and are always working hard to push forward and keep achieving. The brilliant thing about running a business with your best friends is realising that it can evolve to suit the group's needs. We have a rule that personal things take precedence as we all recognise how important it is in our lives. If someone needs a holiday, time to spend with their loved ones, time to focus on a passion, they block it out in the diary and the rest of the group work around it.
6. You have had several collaborations with other musicians. If you could choose any artist alive to share an stage with, who'd it be? Where'd it be?
It would have to be the legendary Bette Midler! She’s a BIG Tootsie inspiration and we have everything crossed that we will share the stage with her some day (with a Big Band and dressed head to toe in sequins). The dream venue would have to be somewhere epic like Wembley or the Hollywood Bowl!
7. On your website there's a little intro about each member of the band and their retro icon. How does each retro icon inspire you?
Inspired by the Spice Girls, we all have personas or nicknames in the group - The Diva, The Bombshell, The Peach, The Poppet, The Siren and The Sweetheart. These represent our differences in personalities and give us that extra heightened character to play with during our shows. It’s a lot of fun! We are all huge fans of Hollywood vintage icons and decided to choose our favourite and use them as inspiration for our look and performance.
8. Who does inspire you the most offstage?
It has to be the people we have met along the way who have inspired us most. There’s an incredible sense of community in the vintage world and we wouldn’t have achieved half as much without the passion and support shown by the wonderful folk we have worked with.
